Many offices treat the lift lobby as a problem to get through. People spill onto a floor, hunt for a logo, and arrive at a desk still carrying the street. A pre-reception is the missing sentence: a short room that changes pace before the conversation starts.
If the desk is the first room, the visitor is still in the lift.
What the pause is for
Orientation. A place to put a bag. Acoustic relief after a corridor. Light that is not a downlight on the scalp. None of this needs to be grand. It needs to be decided. A bench in a draught, a screen that does not hide anything, a floor that does not change — these are how a workplace admits it never thought about arrival.

This is not a goldmine. It is a few metres of planning that most floor plates skip because they are not on the furniture schedule.
